I know what you’re all going to say….I know I am a bit hyperactive, making things oh so quickly but what you have to remember is that although I have been an arty crafty soul for as long as I can remember, there are so many exciting new things to create right now. I have never known such gorgeous patterns and ideas.
Everything stayed the same for far too long, acrylic and nylon yarn to knit with and dare I say crimplene? Am I really old enough to know that fabric?? One false move with your washing technique and the beautifully created garment either distorted or changed colour . Beautifull created Margot Ledbetter designs are now sitting in some landfill site without even an inkling of what ‘decompose’ means!! This just doesn’t happen these days, what with our wonderfully educated washing machines and gorgeous natural yarns and fabrics….lucky us!!
Suddenly, BOOM!, there is an explosion of fabrics, patterns and yarns and it is all driving me to distraction! I am like a headless chicken, wanting to have a go at everything and I thank all of you for the inspiration and also I thank all the differently aged people in my life that I can create for. I keep trying to make things for Maisie but she’s gone a bit skull and crossbones on me and screws her face up a bit before she says something like, ‘I think that is more of an Ali bag really’….the last time Maisie and I went clothes shopping she told me in no uncertain terms that ‘you just don’t get my style do you Mum?’ and to be honest I don’t, but I’ll keep quiet, occasionally throwing in a pair of pink knickers in the hope that in the not too distant future she’ll go a bit more erm…pink!
Maisie does look so pretty with her strawberry blonde hair and strong cerise and orange colours, but I won’t push it, I know when to take a step back. She’s more likely to go a bit more ‘pink’ if I say nothing. I have had four children you know! Eleven seems to be the new 13!!
Anyway, not to disappoint you I have made a ‘Sherbet’ bag using some scraps of material I had lying about my person….the pattern comes from a talented duo Melly & Me, it was a joy to sew. Every pattern piece went together perfectly and I can’t wait to make another version, but a bit quieter for my more…ahem…mature nature! I ordered the pattern from another duo of very friendly girls here in the UK, buttonberry, they stock loads of interesting stuff and I have to drag myself away from placing an enormous order! I wonder who will be the recipient of this one though….I think Maisie may have given the game away earlier in this post. I don’t think I have anything else to show…well not just this minute, I do have some angora felted bootees drying in the background and I suppose I could just photograph them when I have added a bit of voile ribbon in a big pink girlie bow on the front!
Must go and have my bath I suppose…got no water pressure today apparently, so a shower is out of the question. The other thing that not working properly is the coffee machine..I wonder what the third ‘not working’ thing is going to be?
So what did you get up to on this persistently rainy weekend?? A girl has to do something other than housework!
oh and just as a PS….I did this little quiz after finding it on Marianne’s knotminding…I think it’s pretty accurate!!
