There was a reason for going to Milan…Barry had to attend a course for work from the Monday to the Friday and that meant I would be alone, just me and my knitting in a buzzing city. I have to tell you I was more than a little bit scared. I mean, I only speak a bit of CSE French, no Italian but I did know how to say ‘grazie’ and that was it!! Shame on me, I am so grateful to all those lovely Italian people that spoke English. I spent most of the week in the park knitting….
Before I went, I googled ‘yarn shops, Milan’ and came across this post where I left a comment and Sarah very kindly emailed me with some information which I took with me to Milan. Anyway here’s the words I wrote in my diary of the days I spent alone in Milan, not too many words, but just enough to keep my memory awake
Sunday (OK not alone yet but I wrote this all the same)
£38 excess baggage ggrrrrr
left my lovely belt at security, Barry ran all the way back from the gate to get it for me.
11.30 Taxi cost 85euro from Bergamot Airport to hotel in Milan!
3.30 Giro d’Italia cycles
4hrs in park
nasty man-red hair- wedding ring-alco-beggar!
lens cap fell into lift shaft
Meal in Ristorante ‘al Mercante’ – lovely
went to Lanar – You can see the piece of paper in the slide show below, look at my worried words I wrote on it and also some writing from the shop assistant….I did get some lovely 4ply yarn
knitting in park again
raining a bit
feel a bit vulnerable
A young man from Spain bought me an ice cream in the park, I left soon after…
Went to Lanar with Barry, got some more colours and managed to order some pale blue yarn to collect ‘domani’
Had another ice cream – yummy
Meal with B’s friends as Mon
I didn’t write again in my diary – think I’d had enough of being alone and feeling vulnerable in the park, it poured with rain this day but I managed to walk to Lanar to get my order from the day before
I only had to spend the morning alone so I spent the time in the hotel room, leisurely getting ready to get into a taxi to take me to Barry. We then went to the airport to hire a car for the weekend and spend some time at the lakes….more photos to follow!
as a PS, I knitted a vine baby hat and some better than bootees whilst in Milan. I washed them in some of the complimentary shampoo in the hotel and gave them to the lad hosting Barry’s course. His wife was due to have their second baby in a couple of months time. He comes from Finland.
I took some photos too, click the cappucino if you want to see them ;^)
