Baby Snugs and a Mini Sweater

I have been busy, well we both have….we brought all the kitchen equipment that was cluttering up the very small work area in our tiny kitchen, into the dining area. Mostly onto the table but there was so much it ended up all round the table too! Anyway, we have put some stuff to be car booted (has the season ended?) and repositioned food in cupboards. The essential electrical equipment is more to hand and we now have a larger free area for cooking. I still have a couple of cupboards left to do but I’ll face them later. I have to clean all the stuff for the car boot and then I thought I would wrap the things in cling film and then put them in the garage. Well that is the plan but it could take some time!!
I got the kit for these little (did i say little?)boots from Pick up Sticks
I bought a size 10 circular needle however, I came to realise that US size 10 is a UK size 6mm! Doh!!
These are the enormous pre-felted boots, I loved making them, a mindless knit whilst watching ‘The Pianist’ on my laptop whilst Barry watched the Grand Prix on the television. I had seen this film once before and remember being totally distressed by it but full of wonder at the story and beautiful filming. I used earphones (does anyone else find these painful? recomendations please?) so I could sit next to Barry and not be disturbed by the noise of the cars whizzing noisily around the circuit. However, I did make noises at the shocking scenes through out the film, I found myself crying a couple of time…..then I noticed Barry looking at me, a bit worried as he knew how I reacted to the film before. I am glad I watched it again, it is a very moving but oh so beautiful story based on the biography of Wladyslaw Szpilman.
I photographed this boot next to a leaf so you can sort of see the size (I must go and rescue that leaf to use when the boots are felted!) I am halfway through the second boot….

On Friday, Barry drove us down to Southampton to pick up Maisie for half term. On the way down I knitted most of this cardigan. I started it the night before to get the feel of the knitting and just knew it would be a good project as a car passenger. There is no way I could knit in the back of car though, I would just NOT be able to do it eugh!! I do have to stop and look up especially if Barry pulls away hard or goes round a roundabout. In fact I can’t travel in the back of a car full stop!!
The main yarn used is Manos del Uruguay, I got it from E bay at a real bargain price. Maisie’s size used about 2.5 skeins. I made the armholes a bit deeper which in turn made the body a bit deeper.
The edging is crocheted, there is no way I was going to knit all those points and then sew in every yarn end on each point!!
Maisie loves this cardi, (thanks for sharing the pattern Glampyre!) she is growing up so fast and I think she looks so much older than her 12 years! We have had great fun choosing her a new winter coat and a few nice bits and pieces.

I may get to photograph her in her new ‘gear’!
