My First Sewing Workshop

I had been toying with the idea of holding a beginner’s sewing workshop for about a year when a few weeks ago I put out a call on Twitter to see if I would get any takers…I did…and quite soon after I tweeted Winking smile

So, it was arranged for this weekend just gone

A beginner’s workshop to get to know your sewing machine and to learn how to print off a PDF pattern, trace off your size and that by adding a dart in your bra cup size really makes a difference when you are not the standard ‘B’ cup. We also made bias binding to edge the neckline and armholes.  Really, these girl’s were worried that they wouldn’t be able to sew in  a straight line..but they were soon gaining confidence Angel

A muslin/toile was made from some curtain lining

A few adjustments and new patterns were traced and cut to fit the adjusted muslins

Then we moved onto the real stuff, the gorgeous lawn fabric which is perfect for the pretty Sorbetto Top, a free download too!

There was lot’s happy chatting…

and concentration..

and food and wine (thank you Debbie!)

and chocolate (thank you Shobha)

One of these are a high caffiene delight and you naughty girls left it all here for me us both to eat arghhhhh…that white chocolate is devine!

On the Saturday, we managed to get to the stage of applying the bias binding to one of the armholes so it could be slip stitched in place quietly after our evening meal

A good night’s sleep and a fresh start on Sunday and the girls soon had the rest of the binding attached and the narrow hem machined neatly…

Then the rest of the binding was sewn in place

Voila!! Don’t they look great?

Two happy students wearing their lovely new tops…notice how Debbie chose to make a longer version whilst Shobha carefully chose her fabric so that the pleat would look great with the tile design of her gorgeous pink printed lawn

I would really recommend a plain lawn or a smaller print with an all over design to make this top if you’re a beginner though, as it made a bit more work for the teacher Winking smile

All in all it was a great weekend, and I’ve had great feedback from them already and from what I can make out, they’re both eager to get on with some more sewing! Hurrah…mission accomplished!

You girls were the best, thank you for making this an easy workshop for me…I was a tad nervous but soon got into my stride Smile

Time for bed now…ZZZzzzzzz    zzzz    z    z   z
